School Chromebook Buyback and IT Asset Disposal
When a 1:1 program refreshes or a building closes, schools end up with carts of Chromebooks, laptops, and chargers that need to go somewhere safe. RePower picks up retired school technology anywhere in the U.S., erases student data, and pays for the devices that still have resale value. We've done this for more than 20 years and process about 25,000 devices a month.
Turn retired devices into refresh funds
Budgets are tight, and old fleets are often worth more than districts expect. Our buyback can help pay for what comes next. In one district project, the buyback funds were applied directly to new devices. Because we have 20+ years of repair experience and harvest usable parts from every device, we can pay top dollar for what has value and keep the rest out of landfills. See how we maximize value.
Every device, every condition, one pickup
Many buyers only want late-model devices. We accept any IT equipment of any age or condition: Chromebooks with cracked screens, old desktops, laptops, networking gear, monitors, tablets, and bins of cables and chargers. We pay only for items with resale value, but we securely erase or destroy the data on everything. Disposal fees are rare. See What We Accept.
Student data protection you can document
Student devices hold logins, files, and personal information. Every device is handled with NIST 800-88 certified data erasure, and you get a serialized certificate of erasure with every job. When a device is destroyed, an R2 certificate of destruction is provided. We log the serial number of every device, so you can match our records against your own inventory, building by building.
Built for multi-building districts
In one project we handled 5,200 Chromebooks across 18 buildings in 4 weeks. We scanned serial numbers on site so IT could deprovision devices before pickup, gave each site its own audit report, and sent a master report to the CIO. Read the full story on our Case Studies page.
You pack or we pack
Choose what works for your staff. If your team packs the devices, your buyback amount is higher. If you'd rather not, our crew packs everything for you.
Tagging, tracking, and a client portal
We can asset-tag devices, and our client portal shows the status and value of your equipment as the job moves along. Devices travel in secured transport: sealed containers, GPS-tracked trucks, and background-checked drivers.
Plan your next refresh
We help districts plan refresh cycles with residual-value forecasting, so you know roughly what today's fleet will be worth when it's time to replace it. That makes the next budget cycle easier to plan.

Erasure, reports, and payment. NIST 800-88 certified data erasure, a serialized certificate of erasure, and buyback for items with resale value. Most jobs are completed and paid in 30-45 days. More on How It Works.
FAQ
Do you buy Chromebooks that are old or past their auto-update date?
We accept them in any condition. Whether a model has resale value depends on age, specs, and demand. Send your list and we'll tell you what we can pay for.
What happens to devices with no resale value?
We still take them, erase or destroy the data, and recycle them responsibly. Disposal fees are rare.
How do we prove student data was removed?
You get a serialized certificate of erasure with every job, backed by NIST 800-88 certified data erasure. An R2 certificate of destruction is provided for destroyed devices.
Can you handle several buildings at once?
Yes. We can schedule by site and give you a report for each building plus a combined report for the district.
Should we deprovision devices from our management console first?
Yes, we recommend it. Your IT team can deprovision from its own inventory list, and we log every serial number we receive so you can match the two. In our 5,200-Chromebook project, serial numbers were scanned on site before pickup; ask us if your project needs something similar.
How long until we get paid?
Most jobs are completed and paid in 30-45 days. You can check progress in our client portal.
Do we have to pack the devices ourselves?
No. You pack or we pack. If your team packs, your buyback amount is higher.
Do you work with colleges and universities?
Yes. We work with K-12 districts, private schools, and higher education. More answers on our FAQ.
